Privacy Policy

The short version

Magpie exists to keep your wishlists and help you give better gifts. Your data exists to serve you, not advertisers. We don't sell it, we don't rent it, and when you delete something, it's deleted.

What we collect

• Account details — your name, email address, and password (stored as a one-way hash), or your Google/Apple sign-in identifier.
• What you save — lists, items, links, notes, photos you upload for recognition, and prices of items you watch.
• People you add — names, relationships, dates and interests you record about the people you gift. This is your address book, entered by you, visible only to you.
• Concierge conversations — messages you send to the gift concierge and your reactions to its ideas, used to improve your suggestions.
• The basics — technical logs (IP, browser type) kept briefly for security and debugging.

What we do with it

We use your data to run the product: enriching links you save, checking prices you watch, reminding you of occasions, and generating gift ideas. Concierge requests are processed by our AI provider (OpenAI) under an agreement that prohibits using your content to train their models. Payment details for Magpie Plus are handled by Stripe — we never see your card number.

What we never do

• Sell or rent your personal data. To anyone. Ever.
• Read your email, contacts, or purchase history — we don't ask for access.
• Show the owner of a list who claimed a gift. Surprises stay surprises.
• Let affiliate commissions influence what the concierge recommends.

Affiliate links, disclosed

When you open a store link from Magpie, it may carry an affiliate tag, and the store may pay us a small commission if you buy. Your price never changes. This is how Magpie stays free.

Sharing & visibility

Lists are private until you share them. A shared list is visible to anyone with its link — that's the point — so share links like you'd share the list itself. You can make any list private again at any time.

Your controls

You can edit or delete any list, item, person, or conversation whenever you like. Deleting your account removes everything, permanently, within 30 days of backup rotation. Email hello@magpie.gifts for a copy of your data or any privacy question — a human answers.

Where your data lives

Data is stored on managed infrastructure in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest. If we're ever required by law to disclose data, we'll tell you unless legally barred from doing so.

Changes

If this policy changes in any way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect — not bury it in a footer.
